About the Artist

Bradley Oukpak Carpenter
is a self-taught artist, born in 1975 at Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Of Inuvialuit decent Oukpak grew up in the small arctic community of Sachs Harbour, where he lived with his parents and eight siblings. Taking after his father who carved in bone and antler, Oukpak created his first carving when he was only 9 years old. At the age of 14, he stumbled upon an arts festival which featured soapstone carvers; it was then, that he truly fell in love with his medium of choice.

Throughout his childhood, Brad developed an appreciation for his majestic surroundings, and unique culture. This is greatly reflected in his work today. Brad's passion for soapstone carving is visable in every one of his creations.

Oukpak is a full time business owner, who still finds the time to create beautiful works of art. With a strong following and ever increasing demand, his artwork can be found throughout the world in both public and private collections. With many years of experience in soapstone carving Oukpak has established himself as one of Northwest Territories premiere artists.
